Mitsubishi is recalling 39,711 Lancer and Outlander vehicles from the 2008 and 2009 models year to fix a faulty brake booster check valve. The valve can stick when the engine is off and when the car is turned back on, may cause a lack of initial startup braking under certain circumstances.
The situation was first noted by owners of Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) models who stated that their brakes weren't working properly when setting off on their morning commutes.
Owners of those 15,023 Lancers and 24,688 Outlanders affected that were built between October 23, 2007 and January 20, 2009 will be notified immediately. Repairs are scheduled to occur in April at no cost to the owners.

Lighter, Faster, Meaner: 700-HP Ferrari 599XX Details Emerge From Geneva
Details of Maranello's track-menacing 599XX have emerged and as you can imagine, its more powerful, stickier and lighter that its tamer roadgoing sibling.
With 700 horses coming on in full force at a higher 9000 rpm, it's a sure bet the 599XX is a full blown Italian rocket. Engineers lightened the 6.0L V-12 engine itself with bespoke internals made from classified materials. Its transmission was also tuned to handle more power and of course, boasts quicker shift times -- around 60 milliseconds to be exact, officials claim. A second generation SCM suspension along with lightweight 19-in. one-piece forged wheels keep the 599XX tight on the racing line.
Its "Actiflow" aerodynamic package helps the most with beefing up grip levels. Numerous splitters, louvers, canards and diffusers were honed in Ferrari's own windtunnel in Italy and produce 440lbs of downforce at 124 mph. The Formula 1 derived "winglets" atop the C-pillar buttresses push the car down further to the tarmac depending on setup, while carbon brake "doughnut" shields aid in cooling and stopping performance.
No word on pricing or availability, but if you're looking to buy one, chances are you already got a call from Maranello to reserve your own.

Revealed! Full Renderings of Production Aston Martin Rapide Hit the Web

More images of Aston Martin's stylish new four-door Rapide have hit the Web today along with some fresh details. The car appears to have picked up some slight styling changes, but remains faithful to the well-received 2006 concept.
According to Britain's Autocar, the Rapide will keep the 480-hp 6.0L V-12 engine found in the concept and it will still be mated to a ZF six-speed automatic transmission with Aston's Touchtronic manual shifting controls. To accommodate the second row of seats and doors, the VH architecture, which also underpins the DB9, has had its wheelbase stretched 10 inches and its roofline has been raised 2.5 inches to create more headroom for the rear-seat passengers. Overall, the car should stretch about 16.5 ft long, right in Mercedes-Benz S-Class territory. All that stretching has reportedly upped the weight by 287 lbs to 4277 lbs, but the extra power is expected to make up for the extra heft and keep the 0 to 60 mph time in the four-and-a-half second range.

Hyundai Equus Reportedly Coming to U.S., Should they Bring it Here?
Hyundai CEO John Krafcik says company officials are currently deciding whether or not to bring the brand's biggest and most luxurious offering -- thenewly released Equus sedan over from South Korea to the U.S. The Equus was on display at the 2009 New York Auto Show in large part so Hyundai could gauge U.S. reaction to the car.
But according to our own Angus MacKenzie, the Equus for the U.S. is essentially a done deal, with an expected time frame to market of two to three years.
Currently in the U.S., the top spot in Hyundai's lineup is filled by the successful Genesis sedan. "It's getting people past the stigma," Krafcik said of the Genesis sedan. "A third of the (Genesis) customers were cross-shopping BMW, Lexus and Mercedes."
In Korea, Equus is powered by a Lambda 3.8L V-6 (290-hp/264 lb-ft) and Tau 4.6L V-8 (375-hp/333 lb-ft) and features a handsome design. Its exterior is matched with many highly advanced creature comforts and safety options as well. There's even talk of a bigger 5.0L Tau V-8 coming to the model range for added performance.
Krafcik also reiterated at the show that Hyundai is pressing ahead with its electric vehicle efforts, plans for which he recently outlined . Insiders claim any future Hyundai all-electric model will likely take most of its styling and technological cues from the Blue Will concept displayed at last week's Seoul Motor Show.
"We have projects under way," Krafcik told reporters.
Krafcik gave no indication on when any decisions will be made, but make sure to stay tuned to MT Online for more details.
What do you think, should Hyundai bring the Equus to the U.S.? Will consumers be able wrap their heads around a Hyundai that could cost as much as $60,000?

Hyundai Says Plug-In Hybrid for U.S. by 2012; Aims For Volt and Prius
As hinted by Hyundai CEO John Krafcik earlier this week, officials in Korea have confirmed that the brand will bring over its first plug-in hybrid to the U.S. in late 2012.
"We want to be the world leader in fuel economy and alternative fuels," he said.
The Blue-Will currently shown in Korea sports a 106-in. wheelbase and 1.6L direct-injection gasoline engine, not to mention some edgy styling thanks to a solar-cell-clad panoramic roof. Supplementing the engine is a 100-kw electric motor powered by Hyundai's own lithium-ion battery pack.
Yang estimates the Blue-Will has a range of 38 miles on electric power alone and can achieve 106 mpg in plug-in mode and 55 mpg in hybrid-electric mode.
"Almost every part on this car has been developed in-house," Yang said. "That will make it possible to make this vehicle affordable."

Toyota prices the 2009 Corolla and Matrix
The 2009 Toyota Corolla and Matrix made their debut way back in November at SEMA in Las Vegas - in fact, we brought you live information and photos from the show floor. Three months later, Toyota has decided to release pricing details too, so now we can also tell you how much you can expect to pay for an '09 Corolla or Matrix when they hit showrooms later this year.

Suzuki alto 2009
Changan Suzuki (Maruti counterpart of Shanghai), has confirmed that it has halted production of the existing Alto model back in July itself. This is to pave way for the next generation Alto model due to hit the roads in next September in China.
We won’t and can’t expect Maruti to follow suite and discontinue production of the Alto even though the new Alto will be rolled out here in a month’s time. The seventh-generation Alto, is an all-new upgraded version, which will be powered by the Suzuki-developed 1.0L aluminium petrol engine which meets Euro V emissions standards. It combines eye-catching style and easy urban mobility with great performance in high fuel efficiency and low CO2 emissions. So expect at least a minimum of Rs.80,000, price difference between the new and the old models. Speaking of low cost, why not have a look at the Tata Nano? It is certainly a bang for your buck!
Press Release after jump
Press Release-
Changan Suzuki has confirmed that it stopped production of the existing Alto model in July to reverse the slide in its small car sales, said Yangtze Daily today. The all-new Suzuki Alto is expected to be made by this joint venture in September 2009.
The low-priced Alto mini-car made by Changan Suzuki had sold well in medium- and small-size Chinese cities. But not upgraded for many years, this small car model couldn’t meet China’s new emission standards in place. This led to the shrinking sales of the Alto car, and Changan Suzuki was forced to discontinue the making of this model.
Changan Suzuki said it still has an inventory of about 5,000 Alto cars, which the company believes will be sold out by the end of this year. Meanwhile, the joint venture has produced enough spare parts to ensure a 10-year supply of components for the repair and maintenance of current Alto owners in China.
Suzuki Motor showcased its seventh-generation Alto at the ongoing 2008 Paris Motor Show this month as the world premiere of the all-new Alto model. The all-new Suzuki Alto will also be produced in Suzuki’s Chinese joint venture Changan Suzuki by September 2009, Chongqing Morning Post said last week.
The seventh-generation Alto, as Suzuki’s all-new upgraded version, will be powered by the Suzuki-developed 1.0L aluminium petrol engine which meets Euro V emissions standards. It combines eye-catching style and easy urban mobility with great performance in high fuel efficiency and low CO2 emissions.

2009 Suzuki SX4
Overview
The Suzuki SX4 offers a lot of compact car for the money. The SX4 lineup features a four-door sedan and a four-door hatchback. All Suzuki SX4 models are powered by a 143-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is available on the hatchback.
All-wheel drive makes the SX4 an excellent choice for drivers who want an inexpensive car with all-weather capability. The all-wheel-drive system has a locking feature that sends 30 percent to 50 percent of the available power to the rear wheels, giving it better traction in snow and on unpaved roads. All-wheel drive is also beneficial in the rain or anytime it's slippery, even on dry pavement in some situations.
The hatchback is called the Crossover. The Crossover offers cargo versatility and looks like a cute mini-SUV.
The sedan offers responsive handling and packs worthwhile features into a tidy package. Using front-wheel drive, the sedan achieves 23/31 mpg with the automatic and 22/30 mpg with the manual transmission.
For 2009, the biggest news is the inclusion of a navigation system as standard equipment, unusual for this class. The 2009 models get more features than before, including electronic stability control with traction control for the hatchback and a split-folding rear seat as standard equipment on all models. The SX4 Crossover was first launched as a 2007 model; the sedan joined the hatch for 2008.
The Sport sedan features a sport-tuned suspension and wider, lower-profile tires on alloy wheels. We found the Sport offers sharper steering and more nimble handling, though the ride may be stiff for some drivers.
All Suzuki SX4 models offer pleasant cabins with controls that are easy to use and interior materials appropriate for the price. The front seats are spacious. The rear seat in the hatchback is roomy. The back seat in the sedan is cramped for tall riders, but it has a large trunk. All models are keenly priced, making them worthy candidates for shoppers looking for small cars that are more than just basic transportation.

The Perception of Diesel: 2009 VW Jetta TDI

"It's all about perception," noted Jim Gill, Head of Product and Technology Marketing for VW. We were at the introduction of the 2009 VW Jetta TDI 'Clean Diesel' in Santa Monica, California last week. Gill was talking about how different age groups perceive diesel.
More specifically, he mentioned that VW is marketing the Jetta TDI to a demographic that's 35 and younger. Why? Because they don't have a memory of "bad diesel", they're environmentally hip, they want a car with go--the TDI has lots of torque-- and they can afford it. The starting price for the Jetta TDI is $21,990.
The story is that clean diesel provides approximately 30% more fuel economy, 25% less greenhouse gas emissions and about 50% more torque. (For example, the 2009 Jetta TDI packs 263 lbs-fit of torque.)
Mention diesel to a jaded baby boomer and they'll probably snort a stream of negatives;
It smells like sulfur. Clean diesel low sulfur fuel has 97% less sulfur than other diesel fuel.
It's dirty. The dirty, smelly, smoke associated with old diesel engines was the result of unburned or partially burned fuel. Advanced emission-capturing technology reduces the amount of C0 2 drastically. What comes out of tailpipes from clean diesels is clean.
It's noisy. Pilot injection quiets down the engine and provides more torque then equivalent gas-based engines.
"We're not starting from scratch," Gill added. VW is celebrating its 32nd anniversary of diesel power. And clean diesel is a brand new game.
To note, the cost of diesel can run up to .58 cent more than gas. However, the pay back comes in fuel economy. For example, EPA estimates for the new Jetta TDI are 29 city and 40 hwy; the AMCI real world tests came in at 38 city/44 hwy.
In the final analysis, while the 2009 Jetta TDI costs a couple of thousand more than its gas version, you'll get a $1300 tax credit.
Plus, the folks at VW say that the resale value on diesels is more than 80%.

2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid: The Most Fuel-Efficient Midsize Car in the U.S.
Ford's 2010 Fusion Hybrid was heavily spotlighted by the manufacturer at the recent Los Angeles Auto Show, and with good reason: The frugal hybrid offers the sort of fuel economy that's likely to command the attention of buyers hoping to save at the pump.
The official EPA ratings are now in, and they cast this Fusion in a very favorable light. The car has ratings of 41 miles per gallon in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. This makes it the most fuel-efficient midsize car available in the U.S. market -- a title previously held by the Toyota Camry Hybrid.
According to Ford, the Fusion Hybrid can travel for more than 700 miles on a single tank of gas. Official pricing is not yet available, but it's expected that the car will cost about $25,000 once the applicable federal tax credit has been factored in.

Green Car News: Honda/Toyota Move Forward, Hummer Grinds to a Halt
Our video team has put together two short but informative videos from the floor of the Detroit Auto Show about the highly anticipated 2010 Honda Insight and the FT-EV concept vehicle from Toyota. Senior Automotive Editor Brian Moody gets the scoop on how Honda has made its hybrid motor more advanced, yet less expensive. In the second video, Moody interviews Toyota's Bill Reinert, national manager of advanced technology vehicles, and learns that the lessons gathered from this concept will carry over into a full production electrical vehicle in 2012. Get the full story at the Edmunds Green Car Advisor.
For Hummer, a brand on the opposite end of the fuel economy spectrum, 2008 has not been a kind year. After suffering the worst decline of all GM brands -- down 50.9 percent from 2007 -- Hummer recently announced that it is halting production of its H2 model. With Hummer suffering its lowest sales year since 2002, the 200 layoffs that quickly ensued surprised no one. Check out the Edmunds Green Car advisor for more information.
Let us know what you think of these developments.

Fusion/Milan Hybrid Qualifies For $3,400 tax Credit...If You Can Find One 2010.mercury.milan hybrid.20252901-E.jpg
Want a $3,400 tax credit on the 2010 Ford Fusion/Mercury Milan Hybrid that is getting great reviews? Looks like you're going to have to get in line with the early adopters. Green Car Advisor reports that the tax credit will drop to $1,700 on April 1. No, this isn't an April Fool's joke that Ford is playing on the public.
Ford has reached its sales threshold of 60,000 hybrids, and must begin the phase out period for the tax credits. Under the guidelines stated in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 , the allowable tax credit must be reduced by 50 percent for two calendar quarters. After about six months, that credit will reduce by 25 percent, and by next year it will be completely phased out.
You might be thinking: "No big deal, I have about two months to go get one." It's not that simple. The problem is, the cars will not be available until sometime in the spring. "That could be early March, but it could be later," said a Ford spokeswoman quoted in the article.
It's not an impossible situation and there are steps you can take to ensure you are eligible for the full credit. Check out the Green Car Advisor Blog to get the full story.

Supercar Feature: Audi RS8
So, you think the R8 is all you need? Well think again, if you want to keep up with your neighbours Porsche Turbo you will need some more power. And for that case audi morphed the R8 into a RS8. Let the R8 join the Carreras and Astons Vantage, but if you want to play with the big boys you will need something else.
The RS8 is your answer, the V10 comes from the Lamborghini Gallardo but probably detuned to 490-500 bhp but the speed and sound are there. The main visible difference to the R8 are the bigger air intakes on the sides and newly designed side skirts. Also the front brakes appear to be bigger. Looking at it, driving high-speed test at the Nürburgring it really shows how well balanced the RS8 is. Smoothe in and out through every curve, and very quick on the long straight. The RS8 is developed by Audi’s sport division, Quattro GmbH who also develop the RS6.
Will it beat the Porsche Turbo? Well it got the looks and it got the speed, so I guess we just have to wait for the first duell between those two.

Cars.com creates True Mileage Index to debunk CAFE .
In an effort to expose the underreported truth behind the government's corporate average fuel economy ratings (CAFE) and to define more accurate fuel economy estimates, the team over at Cars.com has created their own True Mileage Index.
The consumer website points out the flaw behind CAFE is that the adjusted calculations misrepresent the numbers posted on new car windows, and the actual fuel economy consumers will realize on the road (e.g., although Honda earned a 2007 CAFE rating of 33.5 mpg, no Honda has a combined mileage of better than 31 mpg). Like the CAFE calculation, the True Mileage Index analyzes a number of factors. However, Cars.com places more weight on actual sales volume, and less on alternative fuels (like E85). Their math places Honda's True Mileage Index at a more realistic 24.9 mpg. In a nutshell, don't get overly excited when you hear that the 2020 CAFE number is going to be 35 mpg -- it's likely to only increase your future vehicle's actual fuel economy by a few mpg.

Germans have raised a coverlet over Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG

Germans have raised a coverlet over Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG. The first sketch of the car before its world premiere on the International motor show in New York in April of this year is published in German magazine Sport Auto. That part of "body" of a novelty which has been slightly opened before the photographer, gives the chance to see the updated front bumper, light-alloy disks of wheels with 5th spokes, the modernised brake gears. All! With the motor capacity of 525 h.p. it is poorly for a car to estimate it completely, and there is quite enough to generate opinion on this sedan. Other changes in external shape of the car are branch pipes an exhaust pipe and the modified rear spoiler. Under a cowl has found a place the atmospheric 6,2-litre engine V8 which is giving out 525 h.p about which we have already told.

Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano
The Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano set a new benchmark of excellence in the sports car world after it was introduced at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show. This stunning new all-aluminum two-seater is summed up rather succinctly by its own name and delivers everything that this promises. Fiorano after the circuit Ferrari uses to hone the performance of its track and road cars; GTB as in Gran Turismo Berlinetta after the most famous Ferrari berlinettas ever built; and 599 to reflect the displacement of its V12 engine divided by 10.
The Ferrari 599 GTB was designed with several specific objectives in mind: to surpass the intense driving pleasure of such renowned models as the F40, to guarantee stunning performance courtesy of its highly innovative content and technology transfers from the F1 single-seaters, and to deliver superior standards of roominess, comfort, ergonomics and safety. The result is the absolute pinnacle of achievement in terms of thoroughbred Ferrari sportiness and technology.

Ford Explorer at last will receive modern motors By Anton Ca$h on 11:55 PM comment (0) Filed Under: explorer america, modern motors, off road car

Probably, very soon street races become silent. Anyway in the USA where each small motor-car manufacturer aspires to construct superpenalties on electropull-rod. Drive after all already on cities roadsters Tesla, and it only the first step. Soon to them, possibly, the child of the American office EV Innovations which are engaged in alteration of serial cars in electropenalties will adjoin. To New York this Californian firm delivers to the motor-show middle motor sport car of own working out — Inizio, which just as earlier announced by it Rush, goes thanks to only one electric motor. The motor receives energy from the complete set of litievo-ionic batteries, and those are charged from the household socket connection for eight hours. The cruising range makes 322 km. And it is enough of it, to drive night without a break. The car 1089 kg weigh. At such weight with five-step "mechanics" it was possible to reach extremely good dynamic indicators: dispersal to hundred for four seconds, maximum speed — about 270 km/h. More than it's not known yet. And still misters from EV Innovations have declared that we should wait from them for the second car, family — Wave. The Total charge of the accumulator will suffice it on 275 km, and the maximum speed will make only 129 km/h. But the price will not exceed $35 thousand. Sport car Inizio where is more expensive — from $139 thousand. Both cars of manufacture EV Innovations will deliver to dealers in 2010. But open there is a question, whether there are models serial. After all memorable Rush was on sale only through Internet shop Sam's Club, and sport cars by over $100 thousand it is realised no more ten. By the way, at same Tesly the whole network of show-rooms and a full box of orders from the Hollywood stars of the first magnitude.

The second-generation Cadillac CTS sedan is a formidable competitor against the best small sport sedans from Germany and Japan. General Motors is wisely expanding the CTS lineup with coupe and wagon versions. The wagon (pictured) comes first, this spring; the coupe will follow some time in 2010. The wagon will offer many of the same performance and luxury features as the CTS sedan, including rear wheel drive and available all wheel drive, as well as two versions of GM's 3.6 liter V-6, with 255 or 304 hp. Also on its way in the second half of this year is a brand new Cadillac SRX crossover, a mid-size luxury crossover on GM's new global SUV architecture, replacing the slow-selling original version. The standard engine in the SRX, a three-liter V-6; a turbocharged 2.8 liter V-6 is optional.
